The European Union
The European Union (EU) is a political organization made up of 25 European democratic countries. The member-states delegate some of their decision-making powers to shared institutions so that decisions on specific matters of mutual interest issues can be made at European level.

The Council of Europe
It is a political organization set up for the promotion of culture and it is made up of 46 countries, 21 of which are Central and Eastern European countries; it is separated from the European Union, which is composed of 25 countries.

The Council of Europe has drawn up the European Landscape Convention whose aim is to promote landscape protection, management and planning policies and to encourage European cooperation in the landscape specific policies.
